Happy New Year!

by Matthew Parrott on January 1, 2010

Hear at DiscipleshipGuy I know New Years posts and resolutions can become quite trite, but, it is the New Year, and I have made some goals that apply to DiscipleshipGuy in the year 2010. So without further ado, here goes:

  1. Bible Reading Plan – I want to go through the entire Bible in one year. There are many reading guides and plans out there, I picked one that was simple and straight forward. The one I am using, is from Christian Broadcasting Network. In 2009 I made this my goal….at the end of March. I came up about 40 days short of finishing. This year I want to make it through the entire Bible and finish the part that I missed last year. In addition I am making it my goal to read one Proverb everyday. Will you join me in making this goal for 2010?
  2. Book Reviews – Our goal here is to review at least six books, one every other month. Five of those books will be from our primary categories, career, faith, finance, fitness, and relationships plus one wild card. If you have suggestions or specific books you would like to review, please suggest it by sending us an email from our contact page with ‘Book Reviews’ in the subject line.
  3. Careers – This will be one of the more interesting story lines for DiscipleshipGuy this year. Right now I am un-employed and homeless, well sort of. Currently my family and I are staying with family while we figure out where we will be working, then we can figure out were we will be living. So, the goal for DiscipleshipGuy? To find God’s will for our family as far as occupation and develop this site as well as some other web projects I am working on. I want to be free of working punching the clock for someone else.
  4. Faith – I really want to do a better job of journaling, I know that may seem a little cheesy to some, but that’s what I want to do. It would be hard to put a goal on a relationship with a person, let alone God. However, I feel like my relationship with Christ is much better when I journal. So, as a way of focusing on God and having a measurable element, I want to make that my focus.
  5. Finance – Financial goals for the DiscipleshipGuy will be modest this year. I really want to focus on 3 things in 2010. 1. Getting steady income. This includes landing a job until I have accomplished some of my other goals. 2. Create passive income. This will help enable me to work for myself. That is the reason for ads on the site. 3. To create multiple income streams. This includes, employment, eBay, the web, and real estate.
  6. Fitness – Weight loss. I know, I know, this is everyone’s flame-out, feel good goal. But I am putting measures in place to really, really focus on this. Three years ago I lost 20 pounds. Two years ago I maintained my weight lost and became physically active and changed my eating habits. Last year I lost between 5-8 pounds and increased my bench press max by 20-30 pounds. This year my goal is to lose another 15 – 25 pounds.
  7. Relationships – Another very hard subject to put a goal on. There are some things we can do thought. For instance, I can make an effort to tell and show my wife and kids how much I appreciate them. I can make an effort to do something for someone who can’t repay me. There are many other creative ways to improve relationships with those you love, and those you don’t.What are some of your goals this year? What steps are you going to take to implement your goals so that your still doing them two months from now. I know that I didn’t exactly lay out all of the methods that I am going to use to implement my ideas, but those will come soon enough. What about you?
